Blog Tour: Flawed by Kate Avelynn (Character Interview ♥ Sam & James)

Welcome to my stop on the Flawed blog tour! You have no idea how happy I am to be doing this. And it gets better--not only am I on the tour, but I got to interview BOTH Sam and James! At the same time. Ha. Yeah. It happened. *squee!*

James. And Sam. Holy crap, I’m SO HAPPY to have you on my blog today! Seriously, you have no idea. I happy-danced all over the place when I heard I’d get to have you guys all to myself for a little while. Just, wow.

All right. So. Questions. You two have been friends for a super long time. This said, how well do you know each other? I’m just curious. And how much do you trust each other, if you had to be honest? Again, I’m just curious.
Sam: We’ve been friends ever since 4th grade, so there’s not a lot we don’t know about each other.
James: I’d trust him with my life. Just not Sarah’s.

As friends, what’s your favorite memory with each other? Wait. Does that question make sense? I think it does. You get what I mean, though, right? Ha.
James: That camping trip we took after graduation was a blast. Me, Sam, and Alex hiked up Three Fingered Jack and when we finally got to the top, we spent a good ten minutes yelling into the wide, blue sky as loud as we could. It was a rush.
Sam: I’m pretty sure the other people hiking the trail thought we were crazy.
James: Who cares? That was the greatest day ever. We should do it again this summer.

What are both of your favorite memories with Sarah?
Sam: I can’t really talk about it in the present company.
James: What the hell is that supposed to mean?
Sam: It means I’m not getting into a brawl with you in the middle of an interview, so I’m going to pass.
James: If you’ve touched my sister, so help me God…
Sam: Next question, please.

All right, back to the fact that you guys have been friends for longer than I can even remember.
Sam, what’s your favorite thing about James?
Sam: He’s the most loyal person I’ve ever met. He’s being an asshole right now, but yeah. Loyal to the death.

James, what’s your favorite thing about Sam?
James: (scoffs) I used to be able to say the same for you. I’ll give you this—you’re persistent when you want something. I can respect that, even if I don’t like what you’re after.

You’re both pretty mysterious. What’s one thing we don’t know about you?
James: Mmm. That’s for me to know and you to find out.
Sam: You’re flirting with the bloggers now? Seriously? (to Jessica) I think what he’s trying to say is there’s nothing interesting about him you don’t already know.
James: There’s plenty interesting about me. And I don’t see you answering the question, either.
Sam: Yeah, well, I like my secrets.
James: (mutters something under his breath)

In your opinion, what’s one thing we don’t know about Sarah, but probably should?
James: She’s a horrible cook. Like, really bad. So make sure you offer to bring something edible if she ever invites you over.
Sam: That’s a pretty shitty thing to say about the person who’s been cooking for your ass for the last god-knows-how-many years. Aren’t you even a little grateful for what she’s done for you?
James: What she’s done for me? You don’t have a fucking clue. In fact, I’m getting sick of you acting like you have any idea what’s going on. You don’t.

James, your dad is horrible. I can’t even when it comes to that. But what was is it like for you to
have to deal with that? Do you ever feel like you have to make up for that? How?
James: It was a pretty shitty way to grow up. And yeah, I feel like I have to make up for what he does every single day. I can’t help but think if me and Sarah had run away when we were kids, things would be better now. I can take care of her. I’ve always been able to. I just wish I hadn’t stayed here to do it.

Sam, I’ve said this a bunch of times, but you’ve been friends with James for a while. Which
means you’ve known Sarah for a while, too. Why didn’t you ever try to be friends with her
before? Why did you wait until…well, NOW?
Sam: (nods at James) Because of him. He doesn’t want me around her, and I knew if I let myself get too close, he’d shut me out for good. How was I supposed to keep an eye on her if that happened?
James: You’re hanging out with her, aren’t you? Even though I’ve asked you not to, you’re still doing it?
Sam: No comment.

On the other side of that spectrum, why DID you become friends with her, Sam. I mean, you’re
awesome, she’s awesome, you’re all so freaking awesome (love you guys!) but along with Sarah comes a lot of trouble. Not her fault, not your fault, not really anyone’s fault, it’s just an all-
around bad situation, but what made you do it? What made it seem worth it?
Sam: It was time. I get what James is saying, but really—he needs help. He can take his dad now, sure, but he’s not always there. He can’t be. (to James) I care about her just as much as you do, you know. Would it kill you to let me handle some of this?
James: You don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about.

James, why are you so against Sam and Sarah? Sam’s a good guy, I’m sure you know that.
James: It has nothing to do with whether he’s a good guy or not. (to Sam) Stay the hell away from her, Sam. I’m dead serious.

All right, all right. Now let’s just do some favorites. Because those are always fun for me to see!

Band?
James: Godsmack
Sam: I’m liking Matthew Mayfield’s stuff right now.

Song?
James: No Rest for the Wicked
Sam: Take What I Can Get

Movie?
James: Warrior
Sam: Why am I not surprised? Inception is mine.

Color?
James: Red
Sam: Blue

Food?
James: I could eat cornflakes with sugar forever.
Sam: Cheap bento.

Person?
James: Sarah
Sam: My dad

Quote?
James:In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance my head is bloody, but unbowed.”
Sam:Beyond this place of wrath and tears looms but the Horror of the shade, and yet the menace of the years finds and shall find me unafraid.” Yeah, I know Invictus, too.

Book?
James: I haven’t read a book since high school. Can’t even remember what it was about.
Sam: Lone Survivor

Hehe, this is usually where I list “Book Blogger”, but…ha….
James: Obviously, you.
Aww, you're so sweet!
This or that! Again, another thing that’s always fun for me to see. Funny, whenever I do these

interviews and I make people choose their favorites and this/that, I always want to answer them

myself! Haha

Coke or Pepsi?
James: Mtn. Dew.
Sam: I’m not picky.

Salty or sweet?
James: Mmm. Sweet and salty.
Sam: You’re disgusting. I’m going with sweet.

Early bird or night owl?
James: Night owl.
Sam: I work graveyard, so both, I guess.

Dogs or cats?
James: Neither. Too needy.
Sam: I want a dog someday.

Facebook or Twitter?
James: I don’t have time for that shit.
Sam: Me either.

Books or movies?
James: Movies.
Sam: Yeah, same here. I read when I can, though.

Pancakes or waffles?
James: My mom used to make pancakes when I was a kid. Sarah buys us those boxed waffles now.
Sam: I love waffles.

Edward or Jacob?
James: Who are they?
Sam: (to James) You don’t want to know.

Okay, okay. I kind of want to keep asking questions so you guys can stick around a little longer,
but I know y’all have super cool places to be and people to see. So now I must say goodbye. *sad face* But before you go, is there anything you want to add? Anything fun you want to tell us or….anything?
James: (to Jessica) You should come check out one of my fights.
Sam: Right, because every girl wants to watch a guy bleed all over the place.
James: Which is why I told her to check out one of my fights. I won’t be the person getting bloody. (to Jessica) Let me know what night and I’ll tell Alex to wait for you at the door.
Sam: On that note, thanks for having us here today.

Thank you both so, SO much for stopping by! You are always welcome on my blog. I heart you guys so much!!!! <3
About the Author:
Kate Avelynn lives in Central Oregon with her husband, whom she fell in love with at eighteen after realizing he shared her obsession with music, sports, and psychoanalysis. When not devouring books, holding down her editing gig, or attempting to coax life out of the weed patch she calls a “garden,” Kate writes dark, young adult romance that blends first love, betrayal, and danger. FLAWED is her debut novel.

About FLAWED:
Sarah O’Brien is alive because of the pact she and her brother made twelve years ago—James will protect her from their violent father if she promises to never leave him. For years, she’s watched James destroy his life to save hers. If all he asks for in return is her affection, she’ll give it freely.
Until, with a tiny kiss and a broken mind, he asks for more than she can give.
Sam Donavon has been James’s best friend—and the boy Sarah’s had a crush on—for as long as she can remember. As their forbidden relationship deepens, Sarah knows she’s in trouble. Quiet, serious Sam has decided he’s going to save her. Neither of them realize James is far more unstable than her father ever was, or that he’s not about to let Sarah forget her half of the pact…

And now for the prizes! Kate is giving away a FLAWED dog tag and a $5 iTunes gift card to one lucky commenter. All you have to do is leave a comment about your favorite male character in YA, along with your email address. Today’s giveaway is only open to US residents, but keep an eye out for International giveaways scheduled throughout the tour.
Kate is also running an Ultimate FLAWED Fan Pack contest via the Rafflecopter listing below. Enter daily for a chance to win some really cool stuff!

Thanks for stopping by my stop! These boys are just the greatest, aren't they? Ahh, James ;)
