Review: The Avery Shaw Experiment by Kelly Oram

The Avery Shaw Experiment

The Avery Shaw Experiment by Kelly Oram
Release Date: May 4, 2013
Format: ebook, 278 pages
Publisher: Bluefields
Source: Author in exchange for an honest review

Description from Goodreads:
When Avery Shaw’s heart is shattered by her life-long best friend, she chooses to deal with it the only way she knows how—scientifically.

The state science fair is coming up and Avery decides to use her broken heart as the topic of her experiment. She’s going to find the cure. By forcing herself to experience the seven stages of grief through a series of social tests, she believes she will be able to get over Aiden Kennedy and make herself ready to love again. But she can’t do this experiment alone, and her partner (ex partner!) is the one who broke her heart.

Avery finds the solution to her troubles in the form of Aiden’s older brother Grayson. The gorgeous womanizer is about to be kicked off the school basketball team for failing physics. He’s in need of a good tutor and some serious extra credit. But when Avery recruits the lovable Grayson to be her “objective outside observer,” she gets a whole lot more than she bargained for, because Grayson has a theory of his own: Avery doesn’t need to grieve. She needs to live. And if there’s one thing Grayson Kennedy is good at, it’s living life to the fullest.

I helped with the cover reveal for this book, and I've had my eye on it ever since. It looked so cute! And it's dual POV. I love dual POV more than I can even explain to you. Having a view of the inside of more than just one character's head is so much fun. Plus, when the author does it right, it is awesome to have the separate voices of each character working to tell one, unified story.

So, as you may or may not be able to tell, I loved this book. It was adorable and so funny. I have SO MANY highlighted quotes in this on my Kindle, it is insane. I don't highlight quotes very often, y'all. I'm too lazy. So this is a huge deal.

Character Rundown:
Avery: She was very meek. It bothered me at first. But she was also cute, I'm not going to lie. Her character also grew so much throughout this book that it was nice to watch.

Grayson: THIS GUY. Goodness, I heart him. Kelly did a really great job of making Grayson an actual GUY and not just a girl who was, for all intents and purposes, a guy. He thought guy things, got baffled at the right times, and was just plain old amazing. (Yes, that DOES make sense, thank you very much.) Grayson was also hilarious.

Plot. I adore the premise of this book, and it was so great to watch it play out through the five stages of grief as the experiment went on. I also did a heck of a lot of giggling while reading this book. It was so awesome.

Romance. Grayson is swoony and Avery is such a sweet girl. These two work together so well. I honestly don't see why Avery was so hung up on Aiden when Grayson was RIGHT THERE the whole time. I mean, I understand why she would want Aiden as a friend--he was obviously caring even though he acted like a jerk sometimes--but...come ON. Grayson. Is. So. Hot. And nice. And funny. How can someone sane pass that up?!?! So yeah, Grayson & Avery are my couple.

The ending. The fact that there were two epilogues made me smile. And the epilogues themselves made me giggle. And laugh. They were perfect.

Overall, The Avery Shaw Experiment was a cute, funny book that had me laughing and swooning the whole way through. I loved every second of reading this book!

My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century by Rachel Harris
My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century
I got this book for my birthday, started it, and then had to put it aside because it was either reading this book or finishing a PreCal project that was worth a test grade. ...I flipped a coin. The project won. Best 3 out of 5. I was disappointed. My project was pretty darn great, though, if I do say so myself ;)

Dare You To by Katie McGarry
Dare You To (Pushing the Limits, #2)
Goodness knows I loved Pushing the Limits, so I am SO excited to finally be able to sit down and read this book now that school's over.

The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

This is another one that isn't out yet, but I'm going to make grabby hands for until I get it. Holder is one of my top guys, remember? I CANNOT WAIT to see what was going on in his head. Hopeless is one of my favorite books of all time. I just know this book is going to be AMAZING. Eeep!

This is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith
This Is What Happy Looks Like
This cover makes me happy. And this is another one I WANTED to dive into right away, but could not because school is idiotic. But now it is summer, and I have all the time in the world to read what I want. So yay!

True Love Story by Willow Aster
True Love Story
I've had this book for a while and my finger has been itching to just CLICK on it on my Kindle. I can't wait until I get to do that! And now I will. Soon.

The Valentine's Arrangement by Kelsie Leverich
The Valentine's Arrangement
This is one I started on the moment I got it, but had to stop because I had to do other things. Probably a history notebook or something silly (yet graded) like that. But AGAIN--it is now summer, therefore I have time. And I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!! *squee!*

So...yeah. That's my list! Now, tell me:

Do you participate in TTT? Link me up!

What do you think of my list? Have you read any of these books? What do you think? Which should I read first?

And before you go, I'm currently listening to (i.e. singing along to) this song, and I feel like it is pretty appropriate to share in this post. You know, the summer thing and all. Also, if you've read Maggie Stifvater's SHIVER trilogy...heh. ;)

Mhm. Yeah. That is all. <3
