Character Interview: West from Click to Subscribe by L.M. Augustine!

You've heard of Click to Subscribe, right? By L.M. Augustine? I wrote a review for it not too long ago. I said nice things. Because this is a freaking nice book. But if you haven't heard of this one yet, it's THIS:

 Description from Goodreads:
135,789. That’s how many subscribers sixteen-year-old West Ryder has on his web vlog series. But he only has eyes for one of them.

As one of the internet’s most prestigious video bloggers, West talks about high school relationships under the name “Sam Green.” As far as he knows, no one from school, not even his best friend, Cat, has seen his videos. But the highlight of the whole thing is Harper Knight, who comments every day at exactly 2:02 in the afternoon. He doesn’t know anything about her aside from the occasional deep philosophical messaging on why pizza tastes so delicious, but as stupid as it sounds, he might be falling for her. So when they finally agree to meet in real life, West’s hope for romance seems more and more in reach. But that all changes as soon as he arrives at their meeting spot and sees Cat walking toward him, wearing the same “I <3 Sam Green” T-shirt Harper promised she'd have on.

To his alarm, West realizes he is falling in love with the best friend who has always been a sister to him.

So now that we all know what's up...

The author, L.M. Augustine was awesome and let me borrow West for a little bit not too long ago. Today, I'm going to share the interview we did! I'm going to be honest here--this thing makes me laugh. More than a little.

~~~
West, my boy! Welcome to my blog! You better have brought ice cream. Seriously, if you didn’t I’m going to have to ask you to leave.
WHAT???? You said YOU were bringing the ice cream. That's the whole reason I'm doing this interview!
KIDDING. I’m kidding!
I'm still waiting on my ice cream bribe. There is no kidding here.
Seriously, though, are you aware of how cool your name is? West Ryder. That’s a cool name, dude.
I know, I know. It also compliments my great hair. I have such great hair, you know. Did I mention I have great hair?
Soooooo, West. How’s life? You still with that cool chick? (I totally know her name. It’s just more fun to use the word “chick.”) But tell Cat I say hey!
Yeah, Cat is awesome. But she is kind of wondering why you abducted me for this interview and didn't even feed me ice cream.
We are not amused.
How are things goin’ with your dad? Getting better or anything? I must say, …actually I won’t say. For all the people who are silly enough to have not read this book yet, I shalt not spoil.
A little better. I don't know if I can ever really forgive him after what he did to my mom and me, but he seems to be, for once, trying. It's a start, at the very least.
What’s your favorite color, West? And why, if there IS a reason, that is. Sometimes people have reasons, and sometimes they don’t.
I love the color of red-velvet cake, because it reminds me of Cat.
So you started your vlog and ran it for a huge amount of time without telling anyone close to you. Um, why? I mean, I don’t exactly shove my blog in my people’s faces (HA, there is one exception to this, actually…hahahaha), but I do mention it. A lot.
I don't know, really, but I guess I just needed a personal place, where I could escape from everything else and no one would know me. It was nice, especially after Mom died. She was the one who knew about the vlog, and so it started to feel like our own little thing, my own personal way of talking to her even when I couldn't otherwise, and I didn't want anyone else knowing about the vlog to ruin that.
Also: I'm still waiting on that ice cream you promised. *ninja stare*
Was it hard keeping your vlog a secret? Because I repeat: I ramble about my crap all the time.
Not really. I am, you know, RESPONSIBLE sometimes. (Also people scare me.)
Of your whole entire life, what is your favorite memory? And I mean #1, not a list of memories you could choose from. PICK ONE. Actually, wait…that is a really hard question…if you can’t pick ONE, try not to make it more than three…yeah. Three’s a nice number. (NEVER SAY I DON’T HELP PEOPLE.)
(What would be HELPFUL is if you get me my ICE CREAM that you promised.)
I don't even need three memories. I know my favorite for certain: it's the first time I visited The Icecreamery, when my mom took me and Cat there when I was six and we got into a food fight with vanilla ice cream and rainbow sprinkles. We were laughing and looking totally stupid, and we didn't even care because we had each other and we were genuinely happy. I loved that moment.
If you were to have a pet tiger, what would you name him and why? (And don’t EVEN argue with me on his gender. IT WILL BE A BOY BECAUSE I SAY SO. Deal with it.)
I WOULD NAME HIM SPRINKLES BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE FUNNY SINCE IT SOUNDS LIKE A KITTEN'S NAME AND HE IS FAR FROM A KITTEN.
(Caps for emphasis.)
Describe our girl Cat in five words or less.
First off: our girl? OUR? She is mine--singular. You stay away from her! You scare me!
But to describe Cat in five words: "Everything I will ever need."
How's that for deep? (I WIN THIS ROUND MUAHAHAHA.)
Now describe HARPER in five words or less. (hehehehehe)
Funny, dorky, weird, my escape.
Describe YOURSELF in five words or less.
Awesome, charming, has GREAT hair.
Now finish this sentence: “If I had a dollar every time I ______, I would be able to buy Jessica a lifetime supply of ice cream with sprinkles.”
If I had a dollar every time someone promised to buy me ice cream then DIDN'T (*coughs in your direction*), I would be able to buy Jessica a lifetime supply of ice cream with sprinkles.
And because I’m feeling bossy, describe ME in five words or less.
Bossy.
Bossy.
Bossy.
Bossy.
Bossy.
(Did I mention bossy?)
Do you ever just get songs stuck in your head? Because, MAN, I have had “Lover of the Light” by Mumford & Sons stuck in mine for way too long. IT WILL NOT LEAVE. I’m even listening to it now. What is the song currently stuck in YOUR brain?
Well "Gone Gone Gone" by Phillip Phillips is currently stuck in my author's brain, so I guess that means it's stuck in mine too?
Do you have a favorite book? What is iiiiiiit?
Harry Potter for the win!
What’s your favorite thing about yourself?
Everything.
What’s your favorite thing about Cat?
Her smile.
What’s your favorite thing about your dad?
Per my Fifth Amendment right, I refuse to answer on the grounds that it may incriminate me…
Oooo, what’s your favorite thing about vlogging? (I really like this question…but still not as much as I love the tiger question.)
I like the freedom in it. I like that it gives me an escape, a place to express myself, to really be who I am. Sometimes it feels like truly being yourself is difficult in high school.
If you had to rate this interview—SO FAR, it’s not over yet—on a scale from 1-10, what would you rate it and why?
A 4.
I NEED MY ICE CREAM IF YOU WANT THAT 10, JESSICA!!!!!!!
Do you know who Dante Walker is? If you don’t, you really must read the book in which he is AWESOME.
He sounds UBER cocky. Which just means that he's awesome. So yes, I will read his book one day.
Hmm…I’ve never done this in an interview before, but I think it would be amusing. So I’m going to give you a word, and I want you to tell me the first thing that comes to mind, okay? GO.
I am scared…
Dinosaur: Dead.
Banana: Murderer.
Creepypasta: Horror movie.
Red: Cat.
Panada! Sad!
Chat: This.
Seven: Ice cream.
That last one was literally because there were seven words, and I hate the number seven, so I had to add something and I couldn’t think of anything so BOOM.
You know, I would appreciate your cleverness A LOT more if you just gave me that ice cream…
Oh, and you and I are friends. It’s already been decided.
…Um… …no….
And this interview is almost over, which is why I’m getting even more ramble-y.
You were always rambly, Jessica.
Before I start accepting that the interview’s over, though, is there anything random you’d like to say? The randomer the better.
I am convinced that when the sun sets, bananas come to life and strangle people to death with their skin. They are mind-controlling serial killers.
Oh, hey, how are things going with Cat? I’ve been meaning to ask that for like, the past ten questions, but it kept slipping my mind. Or did I already ask? I don’t think I did. I have a terrible memory.
You totally did already ask, but since I pity you: things are going really well. SHE actually buys me ice cream, too. *glares*
Okay…I think that is all…waaah. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DROPPING BY! You totally have to stop by again. Or maybe I’ll invite you over to hang out on Bookish sometime. It’s pretty chill there, too. Or, OHMYGOSH, I’ll have to interview you and Cat at together sometime…
If there is ice cream involved, I AM IN. My schedule is not exactly filled… with anything… and, you know, school is unimportant and can easily be pushed out of the way, SO LET'S DO THIS THING.
We are so going to have fun. Thank you! And don’t you dare be a stranger! I know where you sleep.
Thank you for having me! As much as you scare me, you are kind of cool. Kind of. I guess. Maybe.
~~~

And that's the interview! Tell me, what do ya think? Hehehe!

Waiting on Wednesday #19 ♥ Two Roads by L.M. Augustine

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine!

Two Roads by L.M. Augustine
Two Roads
Release Date: August 26, 2013

Description from Goodreads:
The only person poetry-loving Cali Monroe hates more than herself is Logan Waters, the geeky kid who lives in the dorm building next to hers.

Ever since Cali's parents told her she would amount to nothing, she has felt entirely inadequate. Friendless and alone, she takes on the mean girl role in hopes it will make her feel better--and Logan serves as the perfect target. He infuriates her with his obnoxiously long lashes, his all too perfect dimpled smile, and his complete lack of personality outside of his intelligence. It doesn't hurt that he's part of the reason her brother is dead, either. So Cali hates him, and he returns the favor. Thus, their prank-filled, insult-driven rivalry is born, and torturing Logan quickly becomes the highlight of her life.

But when Cali's parents set them up on a blind date, she begins to realize Logan might not be as boring as she always thought. He shares her love of poetry, takes a sadistic pleasure in making fun of crepes, and he makes her blush when he calls her smile pretty.

And hey, maybe those long lashes of his aren't that obnoxious after all…
Why am I waiting on this?
I have several reasons. I think I started on them in my cover reveal post for this book. I think. But anyway, let me list them for ya:
- I adore New Adult. And this book? Is New Adult.
- This author? Wrote Click to Subscribe, which was pretty much the first book I read this summer and was FANTASTIC.
- "And hey, maybe those long lashes of his aren't that obnoxious after all..." I can't even tell you how happy that line makes me. I don't even know why I like that line so much, but I just DO.
- Okay, guys. You know me. ROMANCE, hello.
- LOGAN HAS DIMPLES! I LOVE DIMPLES.
- I'm totally going to love Logan. I can feel it.

And I'm going to stop there because...well, because I can. And that was a good list of reasons as to why I am excitedly waiting for this book, eh?

What are you waiting on this week?! Let me know!

I had this book for a while before I actually sat down and read it. I mean, I'd started it and read the first 50 pages right away, but then life happened and I had to wait. So when I went back to it, I was honestly nervited to see how the book was going to go. (Nervited. Wanna guess which two words that mixes? You have five seconds, GO! 12345--nervous and excited. BOOM.) But then, I actually went back to the book and I finished it in just a few hours. FINISHED IT ALL IN ONE SITTING, PEOPLE. And I swear, I looked something like this at the end:

description

I loooooooooooved this book. *flails*

Character Rundown:
Cat: I've really gotten into listing the ladies first here, so even though this story is 100% narrated by West, we're starting with Cat. She was one cool chick. Nice but not a pushover, funny but not obnoxious. I most definitely liked her. (*gasp!* I actually liked a female character!)

West: Ahhhhhhh, West. He and I are so friends. He is so funny and awkward, it's so endearing. This guy and his shenanigans. He was such a great MC! So much laughter while reading this book. And highlighting. Oh, the highlighting. WEST IS JUST PLAIN AWESOME. Boom. That is all we need to know.

Plot. This story didn't exactly shock me or anything, but it was written exceedingly well and kept a smile on my face the whole way through. I had fun going through everything West was going through. I got happy when...progress was made...and I slapped a pillow when things didn't go...perfectly...you know what? The book was fantastic, okay? I'm trying to be cryptic and not spoil, but it is not wooooooorking.

Romance. ;) West and Cat are so unbelievably cute, I can't think of a couple unbelievably cuter than them. They just WORK. Whenever I think of them, I think of Juno (which I just watched the other day...) and how Paulie is the cheese to her macaroni and all that. I may have said that before (because I'm feeling like I have), but I've never meant it as much as I do now. West and Cat are quirky and hilarious and I heart them.

The ending. Thanks, L.M. Augustine. You did well, my wonderful author friend.

Overall, Click to Subscribe was fantastic. It was funny and awkward, and the most amazing thing to kick my summer off with. Goodness, I really love this book! Now I must go nag L.M. to get his next book written, um, NOW, so I can reeeeeeeead iiiiiiiiiiiit. More awesomeness will come from him. I just know it. WOOT!

I've Been Blogging for a YEAR!

Um. Yeah. So today is my blogoversary. A year ago today, I decided "What the what, I'm going to make a blog today!" And thus, Just a Booklover was born.

Seriously, that's what happened. There's no big fun story, other than I wanted somewhere to write and post a review for The Demon's Lexicon trilogy by Sarah Rees Brennan because I adored those books and I had just read a horrible review of it, in which the reviewer trash-talked the whole first book after reading ONE. CHAPTER. So I was peeved and wanted to write my own.

Plus, I was bored.

That's part of the reason why my blog name is so boring. Boring, but accurate. I have literally NO LIFE except for books. Nothing. All I do. All day. Every day. BOOKS.

Not really. I do stuff.

But anyway, before I get stuck in the circle of my rambling, I just want to say...holy crap, guys. I've been doing this for a year. A whole year. 365 days. That is just...whoa, you know? To think, 365 days ago, this blog was born and had 0 followers, 0 posts, 0 reviews, 0 anything. It was all blank and boring.

And now, a year later, I have 938 (I think, I didn't check before I wrote this....probably should have--oops) followers, and something over 200 feedburner subscribers, and just...WOW. Trust me, follower numbers aren't everything, but this is a BIG DEAL to me. Over 900 people have visited my blog and decided that it was good enough to click the "follow" button.

I know some people did it because of giveaways. I'm not even going to talk about that. Because there are other people who did it because they actually want to see what I have to say. Or they did it because of a giveaway, and then chose to come back after that to see something. This is all beside the point. The point is that at some point in time, over 900 people have cared what I had to say. They came to my blog, read my words, and followed.

THEY READ MY WORDS AND FOLLOWED.

Holy snap, guys. That blows my mind.

So, you all, all of you, every person reading this right now, YOU are awesome. I heart you. You make my day, week, month, year, everything.

And to those of you who comment often, I see you. I always read what you have to say, and I love it. I don't care what it is you said, I'm just so glad you keep taking the time to tell me what you have to say. Responding to what *I* say.

Also, to my blogger friends who may or may not be readin this, YOU ARE THE FREAKING BEST. One year and I've made some the bestest and coolest friends ever. Jana, Anna, Monica, Jessirae, Justin, Tiff, etc. (If I left you off that list, it's not because I love you any less, it's because I felt like the list was getting too long and I'm already boring people with my rambling). Without you guys, I'd still be writing the super crappy posts I started out with and hiding in my little corner on Twitter. Now I write only regular-crappy posts and have no problems with tweeting my face off about stuff. Hehehe. Plus, I HAVE FRIENDS! I used to be friendless. That was no fun.

Anna especially. She is cosidered my blogging big sis. And I am serioulsy thankful for her. ANNA I LUUUURVE YOU. And Jana, my Lux-loving best friend. ;)

And...now I'm about to name everyone again and this post is getting so long, so I shouldn't...

Now, my author friends! I actually have author friends now! That is so unbelievably cool. You are all amazing and I love you. Victoria Scott--hey, girl, hey. I'm a super fan for a reason. And JLA. Holy crap, if I were to run into you on the street, you'd know who I am now. HOLY! Nancy Straight, hehe, Daniel <3. And Priya. P-Diddio. <3 you to pieces! L.M. Ausustine because we're so flipping awk. ;) Plus, I wouldn't be just ANYBODY'S super awesome assistant. Geez. And Leah Clifford, because only SHE would come to Austin and kidnap me. Funnest kidnapping ever, if you ask me.

There are more, but I feel like I'm making this post way too long and y'all are just waiting for me to tell you I'm giving something away. If you're even reading this. You might have just scrolled down to that part...if you actually read this post, thank you. Ha.

Now....giveaway!

Giveaway!
