Description from Goodreads:
“In its purest form love is
self-sacrificing, eternal, selfless, enduring, truthful, forgiving and
indulgent. It also feels an awful lot like a kick to the stomach when you try
to fight it!“
All Everleigh Carsen wanted to do was complete her final semester at Hensley University and begin the life she carefully planned.
When a wave of violent crime seizes campus, Everleigh is persuaded to attend a school sponsored self-defense seminar by her best friend, where she meets volunteer instructor, Hunter Charles. After Everleigh’s biting sarcasm induces Hunter to eject her from class, a tempestuous relationship is born.
Everleigh is determined to forget the striking man, but fate–that fickle shrew–continuously intervenes. Unable to escape him, she declares Hunter an enemy combatant. The only complication… Hunter is resolutely pursuing vindication…by any means necessary. Verbal warfare ensues, and despite Everleigh’s ingenious efforts, in Hunter, she has finally found her equal.
Only For You is a compelling tale of friendship, desire, and redemption--brimming with intelligent characters, witty dialogue, unexpected twists, profound sorrow, unfettered hope, and love’s unassailable perseverance.
Note: Although
this is series, each novel can be read as a stand alone.
A big part of what I liked about this book was that not only was there romantic things happening, but we had great, strong friendships in the story. A lot of New Adult books do a great job with the romance, but leave out the friendship. Not a problem here. Ev's life does not solely depend on her romantic interest, Hunter (who I will gush about shortly). Sam and Ev has a great friend relationship that lasted through and through. I was so happy they didn't break apart after some kind of petty fight. And then we make friends with Griff, and I very much like him.
Ev is a magnificent MC. She doesn't take any crap. She's strong, smart, and funny. She's not even full of herself. I mean, she's not perfect, but I don't remember wanting to slap her at all throughout this whole book. Well, except for maybe when she assumed a certain someone was gay. Because he clearly was not, but hey. Not too shabby on her part. If she were a real person, I think we'd totally be friends, and that is always something I love in an MC.
And then we have Hunter. Hunter, Hunter, Hunter. I enjoyed this guy. He was evasive and secretive, which bothered me. I mean, he wasn't over the top about it and it didn't actually become a problem until later in the book, but still. He was both of those things, and yet I still want to bear hug the shiz out of him. He was lovable. Sweet. Protective. It kind of made up for everything else.
Hunter and Ev together was highly amusing. And cute. And they made a wonderful couple, even before they admitted they were a couple. Their relationship made a big part of this book, but it didn't take over EVERYTHING, and I liked that. Other things happened. So many things. Things that held my attention and made me want to read more even when I was supposed to be doing other things. Like sleeping. And goodness knows I love to sleep, so that's kind of a big deal.
Overall, Only For You was a great novel about love and friendship that I loved. I would certainly recommend this one to people into New Adult and are looking for something sweet.
