On the evening of Sofia Claremont's 17th birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.
A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.
She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.
An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.
Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.
Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.
Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

If we're being honest, this was a book I accepted for review because I saw one thing in the request: that it was a vampire romance. For most people, that would send them running. Goodness knows that the concept of vampires mixed with a love story has been butchered time and time again. But I still pick up books like this anyway. Because I like vampires. And I like romance. And I always hope that something good will come out of my attempt.
This is one of those good books.
A Shade of Vampire is very much the best vampire book I've read in a while. I can't even remember the last vampire romance I read that I loved as much as this one. I sped through it so fast. Sadly, this book was short, but there is a second one in the works, so I just have to wait for the next...GAH!
Character Rundown:
Sofia: I liked Sofia. She didn't fall head over heels for hot vampire guy right from the start, but she was not annoyingly unwilling to cooperate, either. She was just the right amount of rebellious and likable and I can't wait to read more of her.
Derek: Hello, hot vampire guy. He's a badass sweetheart. Kind when he should be, but fierce when he has to be, too. Plus, he starts to get knocked down a level when he notices his cockiness is not good for anybody. And by "anybody" I mean Sofia. I heart this boy!
Plot. This book goes by fast. It starts off nice, then gets rolling and keeps on going until BOOM. The book's over. Very efficiently told story that I'd most definitely read again. One tiny thing, though--there's not much mystery. We know what's up pretty much throughout the whole story, since it alternates POVs between Derek and Sofia, which I LOVE. I always enjoy getting inside the heads of male characters. For me, this didn't hurt the story much at all, because there was still an internal battle or two going on to keep me entertained.
Cuteness! I always have a different word for this. Romance, sweetness, luuuurve, etc. This time I'm going with cuteness. Because at their core, Derek and Sofia are so darn cute! I want things to work out for them so bad, I can't even explain. I love their relationship. It's just right.
The ending. Oh, we are left expecting so much. There is clearly a lot on the horizon for these characters. I can't wait to see it unfold! As I said, the story was going and going and then BOOM. I was on the last page and wishing there was more to read. *sad face*
Overall, I loved this book. I am so happy I read this book and Bella asked me to review it and I didn't turn into mean book blogger and say no. Ahhh, guys. I need the next book so bad. I'm so happy with this story. <3

I felt it really should have been longer, but I did like it. It was free, so I figured why not.
ReplyDeleteI plan to make the next one longer :)
