Redheads are Soulless Blog Tour: Author Interview + GIVEAWAY!

Hey, everybody! It's FINALLY my stop in the Redheads blog tour! In case you don't exactly remember, or are new to my blog, I read and reviewed this book in May and positively ADORED this book. If you want to see my review before continuing, click HERE

Before we get to the interview, I think we should all take a look at the book this tour is devoted to, yes?

Redheads are Soulless by Heather M White

Description from Goodreads:
Redheads are Soulless High school senior, Sofia Black, has had a very hard life. Since her father's death 7 years ago, she has had to look after her drug addicted, alcohlic mother. School isn't any better for her either. The other kids constantly tease, and ridicule her. All she wants is to get out of her small hometown in Alabama.

When new student, Jason, shows up, Sofia's world is turned upside down. She doesn't understand why he wants to befriend her so badly... And, just when she thinks she can trust him, trouble appears.

Jason's twin brother, Robbie, moves into town, and things go haywire. Sofia is now running for her life - and Jason is forced to share hidden secrets with her. She learns the truth about her father's death, and finds out that she may not be as "human" as she once thought. She struggles to accept her fate, while fighting for her life.

All right. NOW it's time for the interview! This was my first interview EVER, so I'm super glad it was with Heather. She is so nice!

Where did you come up with the characters' names? Were they named after people you know or are they just names you like?
Well, honestly, it's a little of both. The main girl in Redheads are Soulless, Sofia, was named after one of my best friend's daughter. I do name a lot of characters after friends and families, but other times I look up baby names until I find something I like :). It's actually a lot of fun.

Do you remember the exact moment you got the first idea for Redheads? If you do, can you describe it?
I got the idea about 2ish years ago. I was proving a point to my husband that redheads are minorities. While Googling, I came across a website that was talking about how redheads are soulless. They used to be burned at the stake for the color of their hair. It was like fire, so they thought redheads were demons or witches... Well, I have wanted to finish this story for a while. Then one day, I was eating lunch with my friend, Leah, and her boyfriend, Chuck, (Sofia's parents), and her boyfriend called her "soulless"... Saying ALL redheads are soulless. That's when I decided to finish my story.

What was the process of writing Redheads like and how long did it take?
Umm writing is the easy part for me. It took a little over a month to write the first draft. The editing, however, has taken a bit longer ;). I wrote most of this book while in a hotel. I would wake up and write. And then procratinate by watching Vampire Diaries re-runs... It was a fun book to write. And I actually wrote some parts via my iPhone (I emailed chapters to myself).

What is your favorite thing to do when you're not writing?
I get addicted to TV shows: Vampire Diaries, Lost, Supernatural, Glee... So I watch TV sometimes. Also, I LOVE to read. I read as much as possible. I love my Kindle :)... Also, I skype with my BFF, Tess.

If you weren't to be an author, what would you do instead?
I like to think I would be a rockstar. I am a musician: guitar, bass, drums, vocals. I also used to write songs. I guess in someways, I would still be a writer.

What would you say influences you most when you're writing?
So much: music, people around me, places I've been... Chapter 17, titled Stronger, was inspried by somebody who made me really mad. I pictured them as Adrianne and... well, you have to read to find out what happened!

In Redheads there are three main characters (as you well know) - Sofia, Jason, and Robbie. Can you tell us your favorite things about each of these characters?
Sofia is so strong emotionally. I love that about her. She take life for what it is and grows from it.
Jason comes at just the right time and gives Sofia just what she is looking for... a friend... I love that about Jason.
Robie... Ummm WOW. What else can I say? He's the hot, bad boy. I'm looking forward to more shirtless scenes of him in book 2! I also love how sweet he is to Sofia. Everybody has a weakness, and she is his.

You've written several books (all of which I hope to get a chance to read someday). Out of all of them, which, would you say, was your MOST favorite to write and why?
My favorite to write was My Fairytale Life. I could relate to Jadyn the most and I had so much fun writing this book. I wrote it in about a 3 week period. Each day that I got to sit down and write was a BLAST.

Of all your books, which was your LEAST favorite to write and why? (Is that question harsh? I'm sure all your books are great, considering how wonderful Redheads was, but I know some things are more fun to write than others.)
When Destiny Strikes, Book 2 in the Destiny Saga. It was HARD for me to write. I knew that some of my favorite characters weren't going to make it to book 3. I hate that some of my characters died :( I was so attached to them.

Okay, so we know that Redheads is the first book in a trilogy. Can you give us any hints or teasers or ANYTHING about what will come of Sophia's story?
I will tell you that you will get to meet some pretty interesting characters in book 2 ;)... Also, more shirtless Robbie? I think so!

More shirtless Robbie? YES! I should seriously just invest in getting myself a bib now. *SWOON!*

  1. I always love finding new interesting books to check out from authors around my age. I enjoyed the interview. My favorite question and answer was where you explained where you got the idea for the book.
