Description from Goodreads:
"I've left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don't, put the book back on the shelf, please."
So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the "New York Times" bestselling authors of "Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist." Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?
Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

I adore the books David and Rachel wrote together. I hope to goodness they write another one sometime. Dash & Lily is a seriously wonderful story that easily makes one of my top favorite contemps of all time!
Dash & Lily is a fun read. I flew through it within a day. It has a really cool premise, too. A boy, in a bookstore, finds an odd book. When he opens it up, he sees a challenge--or I guess we'd say a DARE--inside. This boy decided to do what the dare says. After this, he finds another and another until he is lead to meeting with a girl. I'm not going to get into details, because this is an adventure you have to experience yourself, but it is incredibly amusing and sweet and just plain awesome.
Character Rundown:
Dash: Dash is my favorite character in this whole book. He's so nice! But he's not uncelievably nice, like it wouldn't be possible in real life. He's a real-life-like nice dude. If I were to know him, we'd be buds. No doubt in my mind. I'd swoon from time to time, but no matter what we'd be LIKETHIS.
Lily: Lily was a big ball of cute. She was a female character I really liked to read. Somewhat awkward at times, but undeniably funny, too.
The plot. Silly me, I already pretty much decribed this. It's fun, moves at a great pace, and held my attention from cover to cover. I honestly want to read that book again RIGHT NOW. Yeah, that good.
Dash & Lily. Remember how I said Lily's funny? Truth is, they're both funny. Together? They're hilrious. I'm not even exaggerating. Their adventures are so adorable and I love these two so much! They have their own little place reserved in my heart forever. These were two characters I was hugely reluctant to let go of. For a majority of the book, they aren't really a "couple, but...well, just read it and you'll see. ;) They're so cute!!!!
The ending. It ends. BOOM. That's it. If you've read Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, you'll understand. This one's like that. This is not a bad thing. It just leaves me wishing I'd KNOW. Then again, I never really want a book to end, so we're back to that neverending dilemma. What's important here, though, is that this is in no way, shape, or form a cliffhanger. Always good, that. :)
Overall, I adore Dash & Lily's Book of Dares. This is a book I know I'm going to be able to pick up again and again and enjoy it just as much as I did the first time. Amazing!

ReplyDeleteI keep hearing about this book and now really can't wait to read it. Thanks for your thoughts and the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI totally need to get this out of the library.
ReplyDeleteI love this book so much! And I really agree with you about Dash. I find that Dash is such a great lead character. Many people think Dash is really arrogant, which I completely disagree with. I actually read this book on a non-winter period, so I found I was longing for winter to come faster once I read it. Great review.
